A fine antique print of ship's anchors, chain, ropes and mooring gear on a quayside with a lone sailor puffing his pipe at the water's edge.

A crisp, dark impression in fine condition. Dated in the plate.

 Approx. 8" x 6.5" (210mm x 170mm) to the plate mark as shown, with wide margins beyond, printed on heavy grade wove paper, blank verso. 

Edward William Cooke (1811-1880) was a highly respected 19th century marine and landscape artist. Born in Pentonville, London he was inspired by his father George Cooke the celebrated engraver, and much influenced by the Dutch marine artists, having travelled extensively throughout the Netherlands.
The etchings he published in" Sixty Five Plates of Shipping and Craft" are fine examples of his work and make wonderful prints for framing and display.
