An untitled set of engravings of African Wild Life

From Barbot's "A Description of the Coasts of North and South Guinea and of Ethiopia Inferior, vulgarly Angola".

An interesting set of copper engravings of various forms of wild life encountered by early 18th century travellers to West Africa. The individual engravings are entitled;

"The Alcatraci of the Portuguese i.e. The Mad Bird an ye south of ye Aequinoctial",

"A scorpion of natural bigness",  "A pis-mire nest at Akra", "Gold Coast doggs"

"parroquet of natural bigness", " a sort of eagle at Cabo Corso"

"The fetisso fish 7 foot long", "The sea toad", "Comendo Fish of ye taste of pilchard",

"The kings fish also negro fish 5 foot long", "A bonnito fish of the south of the line"

Fine condition. Centre fold as issued.
