This is the first edition of this most interesting travel book known usually as simply "Drake's Voyages".
There are fascinating accounts of numerous voyages of discovery undertaken by famous and lesser known explorers including Christopher Columbus, Captain Woodes Rogers, George Anson, Hernando Cortez, Francis Pizarro, Sir Walter Raleigh, Captain James, Henry Ellis, William Dampier, Vasquex De Gama, Captain Lancaster, John Nieuhoff, Francis Moore, Oliver Van Noort and many others.
Th destinations described include Africa, Europe, Mexico, Russia, China, North West Passage, The Americas, East Indies, Greenland, Middle East etc etc.
The book is richly illustrated with 46 (of 54) engravings and 2 (of 9)maps.
Modern bindings in excellent condition with the title "Drake's Voyages" on the spine.
Some edge tears and occasional patchy browning are evident and one page is torn with some loss but the text is otherwise complete and in fine condition. The title page and frontispiece show some creasing and damp staining as seen. The title page bears a former owner's signature of B.C.Atkins 1860. The faults and missing plates are amply reflected in the low price. Further images on request.
