Ambroise Verschaffelt  was a member of the established Verschaffelt Family nursery and well-known for his horticultural knowledge. He founded  this Belgian periodical ,  "L'Illustration Horticole Journal Spécial des Serres et des Jardins" in 1854.  From 1854-1869, it was published under the supervision of editor Charles Lemaire . In 1869, Jean Jules Linden purchased the Verschaffelt Establishment and replaced Lemaire with Éduard André.
