FINAL CONCORD DOCUMENT BETWEEN

GEORGE ATWOOD THE ELDER AND GEORGE ATWOOD THE YOUNGER......

An interesting original final concord (or conveyance) hand written in brown ink on vellum.

The language used is a form of court hand or secretary hand and although indecipherable to the untrained eye (including mine) has been translated by a specialist as follows;

 A final concord between George Atwood the younger v George Atwood the elder, Thomas Atwood and his wife Dorothy, who all release their interests to George the younger, of 3 acres of arable and 12 acres of pasture in Beach in the parish of Bitton, Gloucestershire, dated three weeks after Michaelmas 1678.

This being the record of a fictitious dispute in the Court of Common Pleas in order to circumvent the dower rights of the wife of a vendor or settlor.

The wavy lined cut along the top of the vellum is traditional. The document would have been duplicated on one sheet of vellum and then cut in two and each participant would have been given a part each for their records.

Some creasing and light soiling as evident from the images provided.
