THE ROAD FROM LONDON TO HOLYHEAD

 

An interesting , scarce and detailed , early 18th century antique road strip map, showing the first part of the route from London to Holyhead via High Barnet, St Albans, Dunstable, Stony Stratford and Towcester.

This atlas was never re-published and therefore quite scarce.


The map depicts a route in the form of 6 vertical strips with a compass rose showing orientation; additionally, miles, furlongs, towns, churches, windmills, rivers and hills are depicted.

Based on the earlier survey of the roads by John Ogilby and bearing a dedication to William Hillersden within the central cartouche.
