Product Description

A MAP OF THE COUNTY OF KENT

By Samuel Parker

Published by D.Midwinter, London 1719 in "The History of Kent" by John Harris.

An original early 18th century copper engraved antique map of Kent, England by Samuel Parker.

A highly detailed and decorative county map featuring an elaborate border of no less that 118 heraldic coats of arms. An inset view of "Dover Castle and Towne" adds to the visual appeal along with an interesting set of tables displaying lathes, bayliwicks, hundreds, market towns, cities, ports and franchises. The title is displayed in a picture frame cartouche and the map is dated and credited within the plate.

A large format map comprising two conjoined sheets.

The leading image shows the map as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also close-up and overall views.

A crisp dark impression in its original uncoloured state with unusually good margins.

Some light wear is evident along the original fold lines, but the linen backing renders the map stable and robust. Some minor patchy browning as seen but overall a lovely example.

 Approx. 33" x 23.5" (840mm x 600mm) overall.

A GENUINE ANTIQUE MAP GUARANTEED OVER 300 YEARS OLD FROM LINDISFARNE PRINTS
