A fine copper engraved original antique map of The British Isles from Cassini's "Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale..."

 An attractive and uncommon map with early or original outline hand colouring. Dated in the plate.

The title is displayed in a pictorial cartouche with a fishing scene. An inset map of the Shetland Islands and scales of English and Italian miles are also featured.

 Fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration. Centre fold as issued. 

Approx. 19" x 13.5" (480mm x 340mm) map area only, with good margins beyond.

 Printed on hand laid paper which remains stable and robust, blank verso.

Giovanni Maria Cassini (1745 -1824) was an Italian globe maker, cartographer and engraver based in Rome. He was closely associated with Piranesi the celebrated Venetian artist/engraver. Cassini's globes are perhaps his greatest contribution to the cartographic world and are highly sought after.
