A fine copper engraved original antique map of The British Isles from Euler's "Atlas Geographicus Omnes Orbis Terrarum Regiones"

 An attractive and very scarce map with early or original hand colouring.

The title is displayed in a rococo cartouche and an inset map covers the Shetland and Orkney Islands. In the lower left corner is a contemporary Prussian duty stamp.

A faint patch of damp staining in the lower right corner otherwise fine condition, free of repairs or restoration. Centre fold as issued. 

Approx. 14" x 12" (360mm x 310mm) map area only, with good margins beyond.

 Printed on hand laid paper which remains stable and robust, blank verso.

Leonhard Euler (1707 -1783) was a Swiss mathematician who produced several atlases for educational purposes. Most of his working life was spent in Russia and Germany and he was said to have been tutored in cartography by the French mapmaker Delisle whilst at St. Petersburg Academy. His place in history however has been largely due to his hugely important contribution to mathematics.
