Giovanni Antonio Magini (1555-1617) was a prominent Italian astronomer, cartographer and mathematician from Padua. He was closely associated with Galileo but opposed many of his ideas and described Galileo's telescope as unreliable. He also pursued a great interest in astrology which he believed had a useful role in medicine.
