A fine copper engraved original antique map of The British Isles in Roman times by Edward Wells.
An interesting and decorative map which covers England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and the adjacent coast of France.
The title is displayed in a fine rococo cartouche surmounted by the Royal coat of arms.
Hadrian's Wall and The Antonine Wall are clearly marked along with the ancient tribes of Britain.
Two scales of English miles are displayed, according to both Picart's and Ricciolis's computation.
Enhanced with attractive hand colouring. A striking and handsome map for display.
Central fold line as issued with some associated creasing and a further diagonal crease and some minor staining. Free of repairs or restoration.
Approx. 19" x 15" (490mm x 370mm) map area only, with good margins beyond.
Printed on hand laid paper which remains stable and robust.
