Antique Map

HEREFORD

by Henry James

Drawn up by Colonel Henry James of the Royal Engineers and published by the Boundaries Commission in 1868.

Printed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, England in 1868 using the zincograph printing process, a recently devised form of lithography using zinc plates to replace stone.

An original 19th century antique map of Hereford, Herefordshire, England and the surrounding area.

Covers Hereford city, Clehonger, Grafton, Hampton Bishop, Warham, Holmer, Allensmore, Dindor and numerous other settlements.

The map is very highly detailed and includes individual buildings, hamlets, villages, roads, railways, farms and much more. Relief is depicted with hachures.

The whole country was surveyed for the Boundaries Commission as an update to the 1832 reform bill survey - a major shake-up of the nation's parliamentary representation.

The map is on a scale of one inch to a mile and is accompanied by a brief survey report on a separate sheet with interesting information on population and housing etc.

Enhanced with original hand colouring with a colour key to identify the various boundaries.

Fine clean condition, free of repairs or restoration. No folds, blank verso.

Approx. 13" x 9" (330mm x 220mm) printed area only, with margins beyond to facilitate mounting/matting and framing.
