BATTSFORD
The Seat of Richard Freeman Esq.
Drawn & engraved by Johannes Kip
Published 1712 in the first edition of "The Ancient and Present State of Glocestershire" by Sir Robert Atkyns.
An original early 18th century copper engraved antique print of Batsford Manor House, near Moreton in Marsh, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England by Johannes Kip. A fine country house rebuilt around 1890.
The leading image shows the print to the platemark, as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also close-up and overall views.
Kip's famous series of sweeping bird's eye views of fine stately homes are widely collected for their aesthetic qualities as well as being valuable historic records.
The accurate portrayal of the formal gardens and grounds are of particular interest.
A crisp dark impression from the scarce first edition of Atkyns' Gloucestershire on robust hand laid paper, blank verso.
Insignificant age related blemishes, otherwise a lovely example in fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration, centre fold as issued.
Approx. 18" x 16" (450mm x 400mm) overall.
