Product Description

GLOSTER CITY

Tho. Brown Esq. Alderman.

Drawn & engraved by Johannes Kip

Published 1712 in the first edition of "The Ancient and Present State of Glocestershire" by Sir Robert Atkyns.

An original early 18th century copper engraved antique print of the city of Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England by Johannes Kip.

A highly detailed bird's eye view of the city showing individual buildings with sailing ships plying the River Severn in the foreground.

The leading image shows the print to the platemark, as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also close-up and overall views.

Kip's famous series of sweeping bird's eye views are widely collected for their aesthetic qualities as well as being valuable historic records.

A crisp dark impression from the scarce first edition of Atkyns' Gloucestershire on robust hand laid paper, blank verso.

Insignificant age related blemishes and an isolated browning patch centre right, otherwise a lovely example in fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration, centre fold as issued.

 Approx. 18" x 16" (450mm x 400mm) overall.

A GENUINE ANTIQUE PRINT GUARANTEED OVER 300 YEARS OLD FROM LINDISFARNE PRINTS
