HATHEROP
The Seat of Sr. John Webb Bar't.
Drawn & engraved by Johannes Kip
Published 1712 in the first edition of "The Ancient and Present State of Glocestershire" by Sir Robert Atkyns.
An original early 18th century copper engraved antique print of Hatherop near Fairford, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, England by Johannes Kip. The impressive manor house known as Hatherop Castle is now Hatherop Castle School.
The leading image shows the print to the platemark, as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also close-up and overall views.
Kip's famous series of sweeping bird's eye views of fine stately homes are widely collected for their aesthetic qualities as well as being valuable historic records.
The accurate portrayal of the formal gardens and grounds are of particular interest.
.A crisp dark impression from the scarce first edition of Atkyns' Gloucestershire on robust hand laid paper, blank verso.
Some light creasing with a vertical crease running through the left half of the print otherwise a lovely example in fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration. Centre fold as issued.
Approx. 18" x 16" (450mm x 400mm) overall.
