HENBURY
The Seat of Simon Harcourt Esq.
Drawn & engraved by Johannes Kip
Published 1712 in the first edition of "The Ancient and Present State of Glocestershire" by Sir Robert Atkyns.
An original early 18th century copper engraved antique print of the former manor house known as Henbury Manor, Henbury, Gloucestershire, England by Johannes Kip.
The village of Henbury is now a quiet suburb of north western Bristol. Sailing ships ply the Severn Estuary in the background.
The leading image shows the print to the platemark, as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also close-up and overall views.
Kip's famous series of sweeping bird's eye views of fine stately homes are widely collected for their aesthetic qualities as well as being valuable historic records.
The accurate portrayal of the formal gardens and grounds are of particular interest.
A crisp dark impression from the scarce first edition of Atkyns' Gloucestershire on robust hand laid paper, blank verso.
Some insignificant age related blemishes otherwise fine clean condition, free of repairs or restoration, centre fold as issued.
Approx. 18" x 16" (450mm x 400mm) overall.
