Original Antique Print

HOLY ISLAND

Northumberland

Engraved by W.Tombleson after Joseph Mallord William Turner

Published London 1838 by Orme, Brown, Green and Longmans in

"Picturesque Views in England and Wales from drawings by J.M.W.Turner Esq. R.A."

A fine original antique steel engraving of Holy Island or Lindisfarne, Northumberland.

Turner's famous set of views are characterised by his inclusion of foreground interest, in this case a boat being unloaded onto the beach in choppy seas with family groups watching on the shore.

The lead image shows the engraving as it would appear when mounted/matted ready for framing. See also an overall view.

The print is accompanied by the original page of interesting descriptive text about Holy Island

An attractive good sized print for framing and display, dated in the plate (1830).

Fine, clean condition other than insignificant age related blemishes, printed on heavy grade paper, blank verso.

Approx. 12" x 9"(300mm x 230mm) overall.
