THE NORTH WEST VIEW OF RAMSEY ABBY,

IN THE COUNTY OF HUNTINGDON

Drawn & Engraved by Samuel and Nathaniel Buck

Published London 1730

An impressive copper engraved view of Ramsey Abbey, Ramsey near Peterborough, in the historic county of Huntingdonshire, now within Cambridgeshire.

An excellent example of the highly collectible "Buck's Views".

Historical notes, coat of arms and dedication to the (then) owner, Katherine Titus are displayed beneath the engraving. Dated in the plate.

Fine condition, free of repairs or restoration. A crisp, dark impression printed on heavy grade hand laid paper.

This would frame up beautifully for display.

Approx. 14.5" x 7.5" (370mm x 195mm) to the clear platemark, as shown.
Sheet size approx. 19" x 11.5" (480mm x 300mm)

The brothers Samuel and Nathaniel Buck left a fine legacy of detailed engravings of castles, monuments and other antiquities which are highly valued today as fascinating records of these buildings as they were in the early part of the 18th century.
They began with the "Views of Ruins of Castles and Abbeys in England" usually known today as "Buck's Views", issued as loose prints although later often bound in book form. Panoramic townscapes or "Buck's Prospects"followed later.
