A fine copper engraved original antique portrait of William Camden, here depicted in his role as Clarenceux King of Arms at the College of Arms or Herald's College in London.

William Camden (1551-1623) was a noted historian, herald and headmaster of Westminster School. He was best known however as the author of the acclaimed Camden's Britannia, a topographical and historical survey of Britain which was first  published in 1586 in Latin. The Edmund Gibson English translation from which this print originates was published in 1695. 

Fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration.

 Printed on hand laid paper which remains stable and robust, blank verso.
