A highly detailed and interesting large format steel engraved sea chart of the Port of Livorno and adjacent coast of Tuscany, Italy. The harbour area is shown in close up detail in an inset chart upper left and a number of shore profiles of the approaches to Livorno are included lower left corner.

The large scale affords great detail including soundings, anchorages, rocks and shoals.

Dated in the plate and marked with the original price of two francs.

Fine condition other than some light offsetting to the left of the chart as seen. Central fold as issued.

Approx. 36" x 24.5" (920mm x 620mm) map area only, with margins beyond.
Printed on heavy grade paper, blank verso.

The Depot des Cartes et Plans de la Marine, or Depot de la Marine was the French Hydrographic Office established in 1720 to publish accurate navigation charts for the French Navy. These fine charts are equivalent to the UK Admiralty or the US Coast Survey sea charts and are intended for navigational purposes with a wealth of fascinating detail.
