Product Description

BROSME or SCOTCH TORSK

by Edward Donovan

From "The Natural History of British Fishes" by Edward Donovan, Published London 1805 by F&C Rivington.

An attractive original antique print. This is plate 70, Brosme or Scotch Torsk, Gadus brosme, accompanied by the related text. Dated in the plate.

A beautiful hand coloured lithograph, heightened in places with gum arabic. The original colours remain bright and fresh.

The lifelike scaly sheen created by the use of a delicately applied varnish of gum arabic together with touches of gold and silver paint unfortunately is not captured by the camera but adds greatly to the visual appeal of these fine prints.

A wonderful fish print for framing and display.

Fine, clean condition.

Approx. 8" x 4.5"(200mm x 120mm) to the plate-mark, as displayed in the image provided, with good margins beyond.
Printed on heavy grade wove paper, blank verso.
