LASIOMMATA MEGAERA BUTTERFLY
HIPPARCHIA SEMELE BUTTERFLY
Published London 1841 in "British Butterflies and their Transformations" by H.N.Humphries and J.O.Westwood.
An original untitled 19th century hand coloured lithograph of butterfly species with their caterpillars and chrysalis.
The butterflies are beautifully and artistically depicted on their associated plant habitats. The insect and plant species are identified by number on the back of the print.
The original hand colouring is enhanced in places with gum arabic to represent the scaly sheen of the insect's wings.
The depth of colour achieved is difficult to appreciate from the images provided and this would be an attractive print for framing and display.
Fine condition other than soiling to the extremities as seen, which would be mostly masked off when mounting/matting for display.
Free of repairs or restoration, printed on robust heavy grade paper.
Approx. 10.5" x 8" (270mm x 200mm) overall.
A GENUINE ANTIQUE PRINT GUARANTEED OVER 180 YEARS OLD FROM LINDISFARNE PRINTS
