CRAB BOAT AT ROTTINGDEAN

A fine antique print of an upturned crab boat with crab pot and oars on the beach at Rottingdean near Brighton, Sussex, England. 

A crisp, dark impression in fine, clean condition. Dated in the plate.

 Approx. 6.5" x 4" (170mm x 105mm) to the clearly defined plate mark as shown, with wide margins beyond, printed on heavy grade wove paper, blank verso. 

Edward William Cooke (1811-1880) was a highly respected 19th century marine and landscape artist. Born in Pentonville, London he was inspired by his father George Cooke the celebrated engraver, and much influenced by the Dutch marine artists, having travelled extensively throughout the Netherlands.
The etchings he published in" Sixty Five Plates of Shipping and Craft" are fine examples of his work and make wonderful prints for framing and display.
