GERMANY
South of the Mayne
by John Thomson
Published Edinburgh 1817 in Thomson's "New General Atlas".
An attractive large format copper engraved antique map of early 19th century Germany south of the River Main with the Archbishopric of Salzburg, part of Austria. Interestingly, although the map was printed just after the Treaty of Vienna it is shown here as part of Germany, and not the Austrian Empire to which it had been ceded. Enhanced with original hand colouring.
Some patchy offsettting. Light dampstaining in the margins encroaches the border here and there but otherwise fine condition. Centre fold as issued. Printed on heavy grade paper, blank verso.
Approx. 23" x 19" (590mm x 495mm) printed area only with margins beyond.
