An interesting , scarce and detailed , early 18th century antique road strip map, showing part of the route from London to Southampton and on to Salisbury. Starting in Bagshot and continuing via Guildford, Farnham, Alton, Alresford, Southampton, Romsey to Salisbury.

This atlas was never re-published and is therefore quite scarce.



The map depicts a route in the form of 7 vertical strips with a compass rose showing orientation; additionally, miles, furlongs, towns, villages churches, windmills, rivers and hills are depicted.

Based on the earlier survey of the roads by John Ogilby and bearing a dedication to John Wallop Esq.



With light overall age toning otherwise unmarked, a crisp, dark impression enhanced with later hand colouring . A map which would frame well
