The view is of Willington Gut, Howden, on the north bank of the Tyne looking southwards towards the river.
John Carmichael (1799-1868) was a celebrated marine and landscape artist based in Newcastle.
The engravings of his works comprise a fine record of life on 19th century Tyneside and are very scarce.
