Plan For Improving the

STREETS and FREE QUAYS

by Ralph Walker, Engineer

Engraved by James Basire

Printed by Luke Hansard & Sons, London 1799

 As ordered by the House of Commons to be printed 1799
and to be reprinted 1803 in Volume 14 of the;

 "Second Report (1799) From the Select Committee upon the Improvement of the Port of London"

A detailed street plan of the City area around Upper and Lower Thames Streets between the Tower of London and London Bridge drawn up to support a planning application for new development.

The plan shows two proposed new streets and a small extension of the quays between Billingsgate and Tower Stairs.

 It would make an absorbing comparison with the present day and is a fascinating record of a rapidly changing London at the turn of the 18th/19th centuries.

Fine condition other than some trimming of the upper margin as seen. Fold lines as issued. Free of repairs or restoration.

 Approx. 20" x 16" (510mm x 405mm) map area only with titles and margins beyond.

Printed on good quality heavy grade wove paper, blank verso.
