SIR CHRISTOPHER WREN'S

DESIGN FOR REBUILDING THE CITY OF LONDON

AFTER THE GREAT FIRE IN 1666

From an original Drawing in the library of All Souls College. Oxford.

Engraved by William Delamotte

Printed by Luke Hansard & Sons, London 1800

 As ordered by the House of Commons to be printed 28th July 1800
and to be reprinted 1803 in Volume 14 of the;

 "Report (1800) From the Select Committee upon the Improvement of the Port of London"

A detailed street plan of the City area between the Tower of London and Lincolns Inn drawn up to inform a planning application for new development.

The plan shows Wren's design for the city area of London with original hand coloured line i.e "The yellow line includes the space ravaged by the fire".

 It would make an absorbing comparison with the present day and is a fascinating record of a rapidly changing London at the turn of the 18th/19th centuries.

 The map bears a paper repair along the left margin and border, with a small section of border line reinstated in manuscript. (see close up).
Two small tears (approx 1" or 25mm) have also been repaired. Some light creasing affects the lower border area. These faults are amply reflected in the low price.

Fold lines as issued.

 Approx. 27" x 13.5" (680mm x 340mm) map area only with titles and margins beyond.

Printed on good quality heavy grade wove paper, blank verso.
