MOOR GUIDE

Engraved by R&D Havell after George Walker

for "The Costume of Yorkshire" by George Walker

Published by Robinson and Son, Leeds 1814

A fine original aquatint of a moor guide on the Yorkshire moors. Dated in the plate (1813)

From a first edition of Walker's "The Costume of Yorkshire" accompanied by the interesting related text in English and French, which identifies the building in the background as the Old Spital Inn on Stainmoor. The guides were usually employed by visiting grouse shooters.

A fascinating record of Yorkshire life in Regency England first issued as a part work in 1813 to 1814 and published as a complete book in 1814.

A most attractive print, ideal for framing and display.
