Published London 1878 in "Illustrations of Typical Specimens of Lepidoptera Heterocera in the Collection of The British Museum" by Arthur Gardiner Butler.

A beautiful set of hand coloured lithographs of various species of moth from Japan i.e. Hymenia erebina, Botys jessica, Glyphodes sylpharis, Botys protensa, Gabala argentata, Botys chlorophanta, Pionea sodalis, Ebulia aurorina, Margaronia neomeria and Crocidophera pantherata. A numbered key below identifies each moth specimen.

 The exquisite detail and quality of colouring can be seen in the close up image provided. The colours remain fresh and bright - a highly decorative print for display.

Fine unmarked condition other than an unobtrusive library blind stamp lower right.  

Approx. 10" x 8.5"(250mm x 210mm) printed area as depicted.

Sheet size 12.5" x 9.5" (320mm x 245mm) on heavy grade paper, blank verso.
