WENLOCK

by Henry James

Drawn up by Colonel Henry James of the Royal Engineers and published by the Boundaries Commission in 1868.

Printed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, England in 1868 using the zincograph printing process, a recently devised form of lithography using zinc plates to replace stone.

An original 19th century antique map of Much Wenlock, Shropshire, England and the surrounding area.

Covers Harley, Cressage, Broseley, Ironbridge, Madely, Bridgenorth, Shifnal and numerous other settlements.

An inset detail map covers Harley on a scale of 36 chains to an inch.

A fascinating record of the area as it was in the mid 19th century, making an interesting comparison with the present day.

The whole country was surveyed for the Boundaries Commission as an update to the 1832 reform bill survey - a major shake-up of the nation's parliamentary representation.

The map is on a scale of 3 miles to an inch and is accompanied by a brief survey report on a separate sheet with interesting information on population and housing etc.

Enhanced with original hand colouring with a colour key to identify the various boundaries.

Fine clean condition, free of repairs or restoration. No folds, blank verso.

Approx. 13" x 9" (330mm x 220mm) printed area only, with margins beyond to facilitate mounting/matting and framing.

A GENUINE ORIGINAL ANTIQUE MAP GUARANTEED OVER 150 YEARS OLD FROM LINDISFARNE PRINTS
