Phillipe Vandermaelen (1795 -1869) was a Belgian cartographer of some note and he published the large scale six volume Atlas Universel in 1827. It was the first atlas to employ the recently invented process of lithography and its folio maps display the whole world on the same massive scale of approx 26 miles to an inch in a conical projection.
