An original Saxton & Kip map of the county of Nottinghamshire published in Camden's Brittania. 

A fine early 17th century copper engraved antique Nottinghamshire map enhanced with attractive later hand colouring.

Fine condition, free of repairs or restoration. Centre fold as issued.  

Approx. 12.5" x 10" (310mm x 260mm) map area only, with good margins beyond. Blank verso on light grade hand laid paper.

Christopher Saxton, often dubbed the father of English map-making, was highly influential. His survey of Britain between 1573 and 1579 equipped him to produce the first atlas detailing the various regions of the country. His maps were later reduced in size and engraved by William Kip and William Hole to illustrate the 1607, 1610 and 1637 editions of the great work,"Brittania" by William Camden.
