A finely crafted original 19th century etching of boats and fishing on the River Thames, England.

Hamerton used examples from the very finest etchers of the day to illustrate his definitive work on the art form.

Dated and signed in the plate as R.Redgrave 1867.

Fine condition other than very minor spotting in one margin, printed area unaffected, free of repairs or restoration.

A crisp, dark impression printed on fine india paper backed on to robust heavy grade wove, blank verso.

Approx. 11" x 7.5" (280mm x 190mm) to the platemark with margins beyond.

Richard Redgrave (1804-88) was a noted London based British painter and etcher and a member of the Royal Academy.

He was co-author of "A Century of Painters of the English School" in 1866 and became the art director of the South Kensington Museum.

For these and his many other artistic achievements he was offered a knighthood in 1869 but declined.
