A copper engraved antique portrait of Sir Richard Steele, Irish Writer and politician who co-founded the 18th century Spectator and Tatler newspapers.

 Fine condition.

 Printed on hand laid paper, blank verso.

Approx. 8" x 5" (200mm x 120mm) overall.


The Universal Magazine was a popular 18th century illustrated periodical.

  It was established in 1747 by John Hinton and ran until 1799. The fine copper engraved illustrations and maps are widely collected.
